History of the French Bulldog
French bulldog, also called Frenchie, breed of non-working dog with its unique and distinctive features. Their English ancestors were bred for bloody bull-baiting and dogfights and the fights between two game dogs are staged as a form of entertainment and gambling. They were perfect fighter-catch dogs due to their flat face which come from the disease called brachycephalic. Their flat face allowed them to breathing when they were catching and squeezing the rival animal until the poor opponent died. So, they were working dogs or even fighting dogs until the dog fighting was outlawed by law in 1835 in the UK. Most countries have banned dog fighting, but unfortunately it is still legal in some countries. Frenchies, so go back to their origin. After all when the dog fighting banned, French Bulldogs used by coachmen and butchers to kill rats, so they were typical working dogs. In this time they also became as a toy dog called companion dogs. They were a favourite companion for the Nottingham lace workers as the small Bulldogs loved to sit on laps and kept the workers warm. These smaller versions of Bulldogs were created from the original English Bulldogs, which were bred with Pugs and small Terriers. French Bulldogs arrived in France as companions of British textile workers, because the Industrial Revolution drove the craftsmen to France and they took their small dog with them. The small sized toy bulldogs became popular in France and were given the name the "French Bulldog." Over the years, they have captured the hearts of many with their adaptable and affectionate nature. Their expressive flat faces, large round eyes, add to their undeniable appeal. They look like human babies which led to it to gain their “Frenchie” moniker.
